The Land Before Time has always meant alot to me and is for me the best animated movie I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Directed and produced by Don Bluth and executive produced by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg wrapped in an absolutely beautiful score by the late James Horner.
This beautiful and memorable scene was animated by the legendary animator and illustrator, John Pomeroy.
A particular scene moves me everytime I see it. It moved me when I saw it the first time as an 8 or 9 year old child and now as a 39 year old man and father to 3 boys. The scene where Little Foot’s mother dies and he is left lost and alone, has such an emotional weight to it, that it gets me everytime!
I grew up without a mother. She left me and my dad when I was 7 or 8 months old. From that point on, it was just me and my dad and his side of the family.
My dad was a great parent and role model for me. Losing him to cancer 7 years ago, left me feeling lost and being in an emotional storm of grief for several years.
Watching this scene again not too long ago, I could naturally relate to Little Foot's loss of his only parent.
I had been thinking of creating a fan art sculpt for this movie for some years now, but after my last viewing it became clear as to what I had to sculpt.
This one goes out to my dearly missed and beloved dad.
